오랜만에 귀에 확 꽂히는 팝송을 듣게 되었다. 

Paramore라는 락그룹이 부른 Ain't It Fun. 

팝송의 경우 나는 처음 듣는 곡에 귀에 확 꽂히는 사례가 별로 없었다. 중학생 때 George Michael의 Faith, 재수할 때 Michael Jackson의 Jam, Judas Priest의 Painkiller, 대학생 때 R.A.T.M의 Take the power back 정도.

Paramore의 Ain't It Fun 은 대학다닐 때 매우 좋아했던 Alanis Morissette의 느낌이 강하게 들어서인지 이 곡을 듣자마자 귀가 쫑긋했다. 기타 리프에 포커스를 맞추어 톡톡 튀면서도 기타 음색과 보컬이 묘하게 궁합이 잘 맞아 떨어진다.



내가 좋아하는 리듬과 리프에, 가사 역시 락음악 답게 직설적이어서 상당히 맘에 든다. 보컬 역시 내가 좋아하는 스타일이다. 개인적으로 이쁘고 귀여운 스타일의 여자보단 이런 강하고 자신감 있는 스타일의 여자를 좋아하는 편이다. 아무래도 울 엄마의 영향이 큰 듯.

그런데, 데뷔 10년차가 되어 가는 그룹인데도 내가 잘 모르는 걸 보니 확실히 내가 요즘 팝송을 안 듣긴 하는 것 같다.

사실, 요즘은 우리나라 가요도 음악성이나 리듬 뭐 여러 가지면에서 팝송에 결코 뒤지지 않기 때문에 가요를 많이 듣는 편이고, 근자에 내가 듣는 팝송은 요즘엔 거의 고사 위기에 있는 헤비메탈 음악이 거의 전부다. 그것도 90년대까지의 헤비메탈 음악.

그나저나 Alanis Morissette 은 요즘 뭐하는지 궁금하다. 그녀의 음악적 발전이 좀 더 이루어졌다면 계속 관심을 가졌을텐데.

Beethoven, Piano Trio In B-flat Major, Op.97, "Archduke"




Archduke는 개인적으로 베토벤 작품 중에 가장 좋아한다.

이 곡을 고등학교 2학년 때 즈음에 처음 들었는데, 그 시절부터 보케리니 기타5중주 만큼이나 이 곡을 많이 들어 왔다.

베토벤의 실내악작품은 확실히 브람스나 슈베르트, 또는 모짜르트의 실내악과는 확연히 차이가 있는 것 같다.

특히 이 작품은 베토벤의 여러 작품 중 약간 이질적(?)인 듯하면서도 베토벤 특유의 강렬함과 정돈함이 묘하게 조화되어 인상에 많이 남았던 것 같다. 하긴 베토벤의 절친에게 헌정하는 곡이었으니 최고의 곡을 만들기 위한 열정을 얼마나 불태웠겠는가.

오랜만에 카세트테이프를 감상해 본다.

이들은 장식장 한 구석에

한결같이 자리를 지키고 있었지만,

언젠가부터 나의 눈길을 끌지 못했다.

내가 카세트테이프 마지막으로 산게

90년대 후반일 쯤 일테니,

15년 동안

나는 테이프를

거의 듣지 않았던 것일게다.

 

테이프 이후로는

CD를 수집하는 것에 열심(?)이었으나,

요즘은 CD도 사지를 않는다.

불현듯

나이를 든 것 같아

서글픔이 몰려온다.

 

그나마

이 오래된 친구들을

버리지 않고 같이 살아온 덕에,

20대 초반시절을 기억해 볼 수 있으니,

여기에 손 때 묻은 물건들의 가치가 있는 것이 아닐까?

 

가장 먼저 눈에 보였던 것이 편집음반인데,

머큐리 레이블이니

길거리 제품은 아니다.

 

이 테이프는 내가 산 것은 아니고,

94년 즈음에 선물을 받았던 것 같다.

그런데, 누가 이 테이프틑 준 것인지

기억이 가물가물하다.

슈트라우스가 연합군의 폭격으로 폐허가 된 베를린을 가슴아파 하며 작곡했다는 Metamorphosen.

그래서 그런지 곡 분위기가 음산하고 우울하다. 

 

메타모르포젠은 곡에 대한 배경과 무관하게 부슬부슬 비가 내리는 저녁에 들어도 나름 괜찮다. 하지만 솔직히 난 이런 풍의 곡은 별로 좋아하질 않아서 자주 듣지는 않는다.

 

카랴얀을 좋아해서 카라얀이 지휘한 메타모르포젠만 들었었는데, 안토니 비트가 지휘한 메타모르포젠은 사뭇 다른 느낌이다.

 

카랴얀이 지휘한 메타모르포젠은 무척 슬픈데 애써 쿨한 척하는 싸나이의 느낌이라면, 비트의 메타모르포젠은 가을 바람에 이리저리 휘날리는 갈대밭의 느낌이랄까. 그냥 내 기분 탓일지도..
